Snow White finally gets a baby blanket

The other night, as I was waiting for my husband’s Dixie Cup to dry, I finally finished my scrap yarn blanket. I could not be happier with how it turned out.

My son has his “Kie, Kie” that he is in love with. I didn’t make the original, but I did make his replacement once the first one was ripped beyond repair. I searched for ages before I was able to find a pattern close enough that he wouldn’t notice the replacement. The closest pattern was from Hodge Podge Crochet, and like most of the patterns I use, it’s completely free.

I made Snow White a blanket when she was born, and although she likes it, it has always been too heavy for her to carry around. So I decided it was time to make her another blanket. I searched Pinterest for an idea of a blanket that she would like, and I ran across Daisy Cottage’s granny square blanket. The one she made is very small, but I just continued on and made the blanket a decent size for a baby girl.

I love these two baby blankets. I’m happy both kids like their new blankets. Blue Eyes will need a replacement again soon, this one is starting to see a lot of love. I also couldn’t stop at making Snow White one blanket. I decided to make a second to use up some extra yarn. I had planned on using it as a baby gift, but by the time I had finished, I had fallen in love with the new one as well….

What do you think? Do you like the softer more normal girl colors? Or the bold colors?

Crochet Creations…

I’ve been working my fingers to the bone lately. Why? Because I love to crochet, and I’ve gotten some amazing projects lately. There’s a couple that I’m dying to show you, but since I made them as a pattern tester for designers, I need to wait until they have been released. But believe me, I’ll share them when I can! In the meantime, here are a couple of my cute little projects. 🙂

Time goes by

I know I’ve been super quiet lately. Sometimes life just needs you to slow down for a minute and live. My beautiful babies are getting way to big already. The other day I was giving Little Bug a bottle and she pushed my hands out of the way to hold it herself! She’s only three months, where has the time gone? We are getting her baby pictures done very soon, with the same wonderful lady who did Blue Eye’s photos. Michaela Stewart Photography is a wonderful photographer. And with little bug starting to roll places, we needed to get her pictures soon! I can’t wait to see what we come up with.

In other news I got a B on my first paper!! This is one of the toughest teachers I’ve ever seen in my life. He grades as if you were trying to get into UCLA Berkley. Which he reminds us over and over that some of his students have. I’m not trying to get into a University. I’m a mom of two that wants her associates so that I am never the excuse of why my children don’t go to college. Moms always want better for their kids then themselves right? Well, I’m no acceptation, I want my babies to go to college, even if I’m happy with just my cosmetology license or with being a stay at home wife. 🙂

I’m starting to think my son is more like me than I originally thought. He’s not even two and he has managed to scar underneath his eyebrow and another under his lip. Well, last night he managed to take of running and fall into his sippy cup. He busted his chin open and now he has a golf ball sized lump on his chin. It’s so sad, but my little daredevil will be okay.

Hubby is doing good. We’re coming up on PRT season. I say we, because our whole life changes for a couple weeks. We eat healthier, we exercise, and hubby watches what he’s doing so that he makes sure he’s okay with his prt. I don’t mind, in fact, I wish we ate healthier all the time. I do enjoy when we can go for walks in the evenings. I’m sure you military wives can relate to some extent!

I also have my first craft booth! I’m excited to see how it goes. Wish me luck. And if you don’t see me on here for a day or two, I’m getting ready!

Here a project, there a project…. everywhere a project.

I’ve had a lot of projects to finish up lately. Some I tried to do before my little girl was born, but just couldn’t do them all. A couple, I’ve been dying to try. And a two small beanies, I’ve been looking forward to making for Halloween. I don’t have as much time as I used to (what mother with two little ones does?) but I’ve been crocheting at nap times or sometimes when my hubby and I watch a movie. I love to see the results, and there is something so satisfying with creating something from your own hands. That being said here are a couple of my finished projects!

I have to admit, this project was originally for my husband. He and a friend of ours went to a baseball gam and you got in free with a mustache. Since I have made hubby swear to NEVER grow a mustache again, I decided I would make him one. This lovely pattern comes from Easy Makes Me Happy. I obviously made mine a lot bigger, but I love how simple it was and every easy to understand.

The outfit pattern came from Follow the Stray, but she also got her pattern from Repeat Crafter Me and Flower Creations. I have to insert my opinion here. Repeat Crafter Me has amazing free crochet patterns. I’ve followed her patterns a couple times and always had great results. She is also willing to explain things that are confusing.

This sweet hat pattern came from the Lovely Crow. But what’s a cowgirl hat without boots… I didn’t buy her pattern but I did find this pattern to use, from Hodge Podge Crochet. I also used the “Minnie Mouse” skirt again here.

I love how sweet this little cowgirl outfit turned out.

This is the one I’ve been dying to do. I have to admit though, I could not find a pattern I liked, so I made my own. It wasn’t as hard as I thought, but now I’m trying to get the pattern together to share with all of you! If I have enough people wanting the pattern, I will create a separate post with the pattern, but otherwise, enjoy the picture of my little bug.

I also recently tested two amazing hat patterns, but I need to wait for it’s release to share with you the picture and site to find it on. The other project I was working on, I’m not ready to share yet. I have both of my babies Halloween costumes started, but I would like to finish Hubby and mine too before I share with you the cuteness that is my babies.

I’ve been super busy lately, but I don’t want to go completely MIA. I finished my cosmetology test! AND I PASSED! It was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I woke up around midnight and couldn’t sleep. Since we had to leave at 2am anyways, I just stayed up. My poor hubby had been so afraid he would not be able to wake up, that he stayed up all night. So I drove us up there. We got there just in time for some breakfast and my test. Blue Eyes was so super good all day. Daddy even took him to a play center where he could climb all over plastic bugs. I saw a couple cell pictures, he had a blast.

The first part of my test didn’t go so well. I hadn’t been taught a couple of the things you needed to know, so I just stayed as clean as possible and winged it. Like I had no idea we would be nowhere near our table, so you need an extension cord. Otherwise your curling iron will come unplugged. Mine did twice. I never did finish the curl section. Everything else was super timed although the timer would go off at random times and you were never sure if you were supposed to stop or not. Half of the girls just kept working through all the timers. It was a little strange. Hopefully they all passed. About half way through we got a break. By this time I was having minor contractions and my feet were really swollen. My friend that had gone up with me was asking how I was doing and the other girls looked at me in shock because I’m due any day now. I feel like I look huge, but apparently it’s not as bad as I thought.

Apparently State Board doesn’t communicate really well, because the test lady never found out till we all walked back in from break. She asked me to please not go into labor and we’d be okay. :0) The second half went way way better. I grabbed a quick lunch with my hubby and blue eyes before going back to take my written. I sat down and the first four questions were on one of my biggest weaknesses. I answered as best as I could and marked the ones I didn’t know. A half an hour into the test, I had been through almost all of the questions and I was starting to second guess the ones I already had answered. So I took a best guess, prayed, and hit submit. Thank goodness they only made us wait about a half an hour until the results were ready. My friend was the first one called and we were super excited it was a pass! My name was second and I got nervous when she had me sign paperwork before telling me I passed. We had a nice drive home and I had contractions every evening since.

So for the last couple of days we’ve been getting the house clean, fixing up some older projects, and I’ve been crocheting a lot. I feel like I’m actually starting to get decent at crocheting now. I’ve been hesitant to post new projects because although I follow patterns, I tweak them so much they aren’t the original anymore. So do I share with you all the original, or my pattern? And if I do share with you my patterns, will you understand them? So I think for this time I’ll just post the picture and if you like it you can shoot me a comment.

Blue Eye’s Favorite bear modeling my new hat

I came across the cutest little crocheted top hats on one of my many pintrest time wasters. As soon as I saw it, I knew I needed to make one. The problem is that there are millions of patterns and they all have different flaws. One worked up beautifully, until I tried to make the rim of the hat. Another was horrible all the way through, and it never looked correct. Then I stumbled upon the most amazing pattern website. Everything about this lady’s blog makes me smile. The Blog is called “I’m Topsy Turvy” and it’s written by Ashlee. I used the pattern written here, making a couple little tweaks to the bottom sizing. I think if I make another one, I’m going to use some pipe-cleaners around the top to make it stand a little firmer. There was also the issue of a headband. The original pattern used for the hat used elastic as a headband, and with how sensitive my little blue eyes is, I found one crocheted to make sure it wouldn’t bother my baby girl. I found another pattern from Pintrest by a blog named JJ’s Crochet blog. I decided not to use the flower, but the headband looked stable and similar to what I looked for. That pattern is here.

The biggest reason I share all of the patterns I use is to make sure the authors of the patterns get as much credit as possible. After all, they make it possible for me to make these amazing creations! But also because I have a hard time buying patterns. There are so few people in the world who truly have the ability to make things from hand that I feel like they shouldn’t be hindered by a price tag. You aren’t stealing my living by using something I have created, you are making something that is truly unique to you, and I will encourage that in any way I can. The more confident you are in the projects you complete, the more willing you are to try new things. I wouldn’t have thought I could make a mermaid tail, or a baby cocoon, or even a top hat, but someone showed me how to read a pattern and it’s changed the way I see my projects. Now I can pull things apart and take patterns I never thought I’d be able to do. I also learned how to tweak or even make my own patterns for things I can’t find somewhere online. Occasionally I’ll buy a pattern, but it’s because that pattern is exactly what I wanted mine to look like.

Let’s play catch….

Blue Eyes loves boxes

Blue Eyes loves boxes

Last night Blue Eyes played in mommy’s box from her school supplies. What is it about all boxes that kids love? I wish I could go back and look at it through their eyes so I can be relearn the wonder. Mommy folded in the sides and put little man’s favorite blankie and a sippy cup in the box and he spent all evening climbing in and out of it and watching Mickey. Surprisingly he went to bed fairly early, even with double naps.

Now Blue Eyes is unraveling balls of yarn all over the living room. I shouldn’t be surprised, I keep a small basket next to the couch with smaller balls of yarn that I’ve been working with. What could be more natural than a 16 month old throwing those tempting colorful balls in all directions. What’s better than watching the colors mesh and intermingle until mommy is pulling out her hair trying to untangle them?
Somehow he knows my frustration and tries to come cuddle with me. That’s when I notice the smell….. it’s an odd mixture of dirt and daddy’s deodorant. A quick scan of the room shows me what I already figured, the dogs had let themselves out again, and he’d gone out with them. But what I couldn’t see is the daddy smell. Which means it could be hidden anywhere. Now there’s the choice, do I continue trying to untangle my balls of yarn, or do I try to find the missing deodorant? I’m thinking for now, the deodorant can stay hidden, I want to get this yarn up and out of sight.

He was super tired all day yesterday. I think part of that is because we were at the hospital for mommy the night before. It wore him out. He took two naps and both were over 2 hours long. I’m really hoping that means he will be super happy and ready for the babysitter today. Just in case, I’m going to find his, “I’m crabby but cute” shirt. I already founds socks and pants, let’s hope I don’t forget to bring the socks. Little miss thing is already kicking up a storm. It’s a little early but at least I know she’s doing well in there. Anyone have any tips on getting her to stop kicking my hips? I wouldn’t normally mind, but she seems to get lower and lower and I have seven weeks left!

With Blue Eyes I didn’t realize that when babies come home from the hospital, you can’t even see their outfit. We let him wear the hospital hat and didn’t even realize I would never get a picture of his adorable little outfit. A year and half later, I can’t remember what he was wearing. Makes me very sad. So I decided this time, I was going to do something special for both kiddos. I made Blue Eyes a little dinosaur hat by putting together three different patterns for baby hats. It turned out so cute that I made a baby sized one for our little girl. So when we come from home from the hospital I can get pictures of Mr. Blue Eyes and his baby sister in cute little hats. I hope you guys like how they turned out. I used my childhood toys to get the spike positioning back.
